Today has been dubbed ‘Batman Day’ by DC Comics. Even though DC Entertainment is
sponsoring special events all year long commemorating the 75th
anniversary of the “Dark Knight Detective”, this date celebrates Batman in the
comics. As such, many comic stores are offering freebies for fans. These special items are paper masks from different eras across Batman’s seventy-five year career (right),
along with a special reprint of the first comic that Batman appeared in; Detective
Comics #27. (Left) More information on
the free batman masks is available here;
they are able to be printed for individual use.
This page also gives more information on other materials
available for “Batman Day.” Apart
from what is listed in the article, two other significant books being released in bookstores
today: “Batman: A Celebration of 75 years” and
“ The Joker: A Celebration of 75 Years.” Each
hardcover book is an anthology of stories spanning the different eras and
characterizations that are significant for each character.Follow
this link for a list of Chicagoland locations participating in the “Batman Day”
events.
For those of you reading this that do not live near a
participating comic book store, don’t fret. There are things that you can do to celebrate “Batman Day.” If anyone would like a digital version
of the special “Batman Day” edition of Detective Comics #27, they may download
it here: http://www.readdcentertainment.com/
All one has to do is sign up
for a free account. This is also
available on digital devices for iOS and Android via the comiXology app. Also, on the Google Play app, selected
songs from the original soundtrack album of the 1989 movie “Batman” are
available for free in celebration of “Batman Day.” (If anyone knows of anything
else free for iOS please feel free to leave information in the comments section
since I only have Google Play Store/Android services.)
Being that “Batman Day” is a celebration of my favorite
comic superhero I thought today would be an appropriate day to launch my
blog. Come back to my blog often
to read my thoughts on anything pertaining to the Caped Crusader.
To find out more information on events that are planned in
celebration of Batman throughout the rest of this year, follow http://www.batman75.com/.
Thanks for reading this first entry of my blog,Aaron "Nightwing" Gilmore

Great blog entry & description of Batman day & the goodies available. I got the 4 masks & the free comic. There were also 75th anniversary batcapes available (the comic shop I went to was charging for it and there was only 1 left so they probably went fast).
